Hello, beautiful humans. It’s been a while! I didn’t mean to take such a long break from blogging. I think it did me good to focus on other areas of my life besides running, talking/thinking about running, and planning around running. I’ve been reading (for fun!) and writing (fiction! Not briefs!) and enjoying life. Here are a few things that have been going on in my life.
First Backpacking Trip
Yep, you read that right. I, the girl who hates packing, decided to go backpacking. Matt and I went with my parents and younger brother. We hiked to Sawtooth Lake, which a map told us was about a 4 mile hike in. It was closer to 6 miles, with quite a bit of elevation gain (the lake itself is at 8,300 feet above sea level) and some snow crossings.
We set up camp, which was kind of hard since there was snow all over the place.
It was very cold at night but I saw so many stars (once the blindingly bright moon set.) Then we packed up and hiked back down. We finished our hike with lunch at a local restaurant that was one of the tastiest things I’ve eaten. I was only a little sore from favoring my left leg (thanks to an ankle bruise aggravated by my hiking boots) which surprised Matt. I reminded him that my legs had run 26.2 miles two weeks before this, so they were in great shape to manage this.
All in all, I loved it. But I’d like to try a trip that isn’t quite so wintery.
Vacation to Montana
Some of you may remember (or know from my Instagram) that Matt and I go to Flathead Lake, Montana, every summer to stay at his grandparents’ cabin. This year, my parents joined us for a long weekend. We hiked, binge-read books, and ate great food. It was a little cold for swimming but I did paddleboard quite a bit.
I’ve been running if and when I feel like it. Right now, that looks like 4-5 mile runs 3-4 times a week. I did run a few times in Montana and that was amazing. I’ve definitely seen a few more sunrises.
I’ve also been lifting about three times a week, using the bare-bones home gym Matt and I have started building.
I started volunteering at a free legal clinic twice a month. It’s a lot of fun and a nice introduction to being a lawyer instead of being a law student. Speaking of law school, I have about a month and a half left before the semester starts. I’m trying not to think about it too much and enjoy all the time I have left.
The cats are doing well. I think Minnie is a little hot with all her fur. She has a vet appointment tomorrow, so she’s going to be traumatized. Poor girl. She hates car rides. We also celebrated one year with her on June 20. She was so itty bitty when we brought her home. Obi is his usual badass self. When he’s not napping. When they stayed with my brother at my parents’ house (while we were in Montana) he terrorized my dog.
Well, that’s it for me. But there are a couple of other really fun things happening this summer. I’ll keep you updated.
Until next time,
