Day in the life

Hello beautiful humans! Today, I thought I’d do something I haven’t done in a little while and show you what a day in my life looks like.

Last time I did a post like this, I was in college, living in a small college town, training for a marathon. What’s changed? Well, I’m training for a half marathon, I live in a city, and I’m in law school. If you’re thinking college and law school are pretty much the same thing, I’d have to say you are mistaken. But that’s a post for another day. But here’s how my days typically go.

6:00 a.m. Alarm goes off. Matt goes to the gym and I get my coffee coffee and breakfast.

I then eat, catch up on Instagram, read email, waiting for the caffeine to take hold. I subscribed to the Skimm in September and it’s the perfect way to stay up to date on current events. I pour myself a second cup of coffee and then get ready for school.

7:40-8:00. It takes about ten minutes to drive to where I park and then I have to walk five blocks to school. I sing obnoxiously in the car on my way to school and it always puts me in a good mood. Then I have the walk to think and that time makes such a difference on some mornings.

8:00-10:00 a.m. Work on homework. Usually I can get the reading for one class done before my first class. Right now, that consists of reading and briefing cases. Each case takes about 20-30 minutes for me to read but some take a lot longer.

10:00-2:20. Class. Today I had Property, Civil Procedure, and Legal Writing. We have a 30 minute break at noon so that’s when I eat lunch. Turkey sandwich and some peanuts. Healthy and filling, it usually keeps the hanger away. Today I had a TA meeting after class as well so I didn’t leave campus until about 3:10.

3:15-3:45. Drive home, more wild singing in the car. I have no shame. I had to charge my Garmin so I cuddled with Minnie until it was ready.

4:00-4:40. Run! Speed workout: 1 mile warm up, 2 miles at hard effort, 1 mile cool down. I’m terrible at maintaining a pace so I usually base my speed off effort.

4:00-6:30. Shower. Relax. Read a bit while Matt cooked dinner. We alternate cooking and tonight was his night. He made mooshu pork tacos. They were fantastic. Unless we each decide to make our own dinner (for schedule reasons or we-haven’t-gone-grocery-shopping reasons) we always eat dinner together to catch up and talk about anything and everything. It’s one of my favorite parts of the day.

7:00-9:00. I read for a bit and then tried to get some work done on the paper due Monday. I had moderate success but since my morning class is cancelled tomorrow, I’m planning on getting it done when I’m fresh. One thing about law school is that it fries my brain much faster than any of my undergrad classes ever did.

And of course there are copious kitten cuddles to make the stress less stressful.

I usually get in bed around 9:45 and read for fifteen minutes to let my mind unwind. Right now, I’m reading Crime and Punishment. But just to prove I’m not an English major snob, I recently devoured the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo, which I would highly recommend.
